CES 2016 with Living in Digital Times

A walk through this year’s CES Tech West was the geek version of a stroll through a candy store.  A couple of big firsts!  We launched BeautyTech and BabyTech — showcasing innovations as diverse as high-tech skin care analysis, virtual makeovers,  a baby onesy replete with built-in body sensors, and the high tech nursery of the future. Featured throughout the two-day special event were conferences and special sessions featuring Beauty Makeovers and our live FashionWare Show hosted by Nick Verreos, fashionista and former Project Runway star. Elsewhere we made history with the very first Digital Money Forum — a look at how the tech industry and financial services are coming together to spawn the next area of digital disruption. MasterCard Labs Chief Commerce Officer kicked off the day leading the charge for the new commerce revolution, and the afternoon sessions looked at emerging digital currencies. On the show-floor inside the Sands, Living in Digital Times greeted you with 3D-printed cappuccino foam compliments of Ripples and a large screen area where you could hear the greatest minds in Digital Health and Fitness industries.

Featuring over 100 health and fitness companies, Tech West  Marketplace

Just beyond the stage area, as far as the eye could see there were miles of ways to improve health outcomes or increase your athletic prowess.  At the UnitedHealthcare booth, you could experience deep relaxation virtual reality.  Companies like Qardio, Omron and Misfit pushed the health envelope with personalization of both function and design. Personal fitness companies created an almost carnival-like atmosphere of pedaling, jumping, dancing and of course, monitoring.  Aggregation, innovation and motivation (AIM) were the key ingredients for companies including FitBit, announcing its newest bands, iFit, dazzling us with interactive training and Under Armour.

Home is Where the Connections Are

The epicenter of the FamilyTech marketplace was Whirlpool’s striking kitchen of the future. New products from companies like Lima, B&D Group, and other cloud-based home devices showed the future of a connected home.  For a taste of kids’ technology, all you had to do was visit the [email protected] marketplace and interact with new robotic toys from companies like WowWee and Spin Master, new tablets from Square Panda, and drones for the young from Odyssey Toys.

The Makers, the Coders, the Robot Lovers and the Collaborators

Watch some of the movie clips from the KAPi Awards, where the Emerging Pioneer Award was presented to Ayah Bdeir, the founder and CEO of littleBits; and the Lifetime Pioneer Award wasw presented to Shigeru Miyamoto, who is often called the “Spielberg of video games” and “the soul of Nintendo.” At the TransformingEDU marketplace and conference, you saw the future of academia from companies like Cengage Learning and Lego Education. The conference sessions included lively demos of how robotics and virtual realities might change the face of education forever. Last Gadget Standing and Mobile Apps Showdown, our two classic award shows, were hosted by David Pogue this year and boy, were the audience active participants. Many thanks to Lenovo for continuing to promote innovation and fun in this “now for something completely different” event. We’ve called out some of the highlights below, but you can find the complete contents of our conference programs at https://www.youtube.com/user/LIDTVideos.  Talk to us about exciting plans for CES 2017.  Keep up with our other events throughout the year, and most important, keep innovating!
